Question 1: Can you tell me if there are any boat companies which operate tours in winter on the Rhine? Thanks John

Answer 1: Please look for Rhine River day cruises and half day cruises during the low season month November and March and the winter month December, January and February here.

Question 2: Are there car ferries / boats on the Rhein / Rhine ?

Answer 2: There are a lot of car ferries on the Rhine River. But they all drive only from the left river side to the right river side and back.
There a
no car ferries on the Rhine River for example from Frankfurt to Mainz or from Mainz to Bingen / Rudesheim or from Bingen / Rudesheim to Koblenz / Coblence or from Koblenz / Coblence to Koln / Cologne. Also not from somewhere else to any other town or village on the Rhine River.

Question 3: I would like to try to plan a day trip on the Rhine. I have clients who are planning to stay in Mainz on June 18 and 19. They would like to cruise the Rhine on the 19th of June. I believe they would board at Rudesheim. Is this correct? Is this a one way trip from Rudesheim to Boppard? How do they get back to Mainz? I hope you can help me plan this for them ... Respectfully, Lisa Oldham

Answer 3: Rudesheim city is on the right Rhine side. From Mainz (on the left Rhine side) you must change the train in Wiesbaden (on the right Rhine side).
Better is, you drive from Mainz (on the left Rhine side) every hour to Boppard (on the left Rhine side) and start your Rhine River cruise in Boppard.
Please read there part 1 and take a trip with the miniature railway to Castle Rheinfels, explore the grounds of the old fortress with its interesting museum, enjoy lunch or afternoon coffee on the terrace of the Castle Hotel Restaurant Rheinfels, see the the world's largest free-hanging cuckoo clock and the world's largest beerstein, to name but a few of the attractions ...
Stay in any of the numerous hotels or bed and breakfasts or apartments in St. Goar ... ... or continue south and past the Lorelei rock, Oberwesel with Castle Schonburg, Kaub with Castle Gutenfels and Water Castle Pfalz to Bacharach with Castle Stahleck and the Stahlberg Ruin with a Bingen-Rudesheimer boat. ... or continue south to Oberwesel, Kaub, Assmannshausen, Bingen, Rudesheim or Mainz. If it's already a little late in the evening, take a train every hour.
It is not possible to make a one way trip from Rudesheim to Boppard with the boat companies Loreley-Linie or Bingen-Rudesheimer with one boat. You must change the boats in St. Goar.

Question 4: Would like to take a boat ride from Köln / Koln / Cologne to Bingen. How long does that take? Is there a morning trip?

Rhine map 440, © 1997 WHOAnswer 4: Please read what is written about a cruise from Köln / Koln / Cologne to the central Rhine.
The average cruise boat travels upstream (Cologne / Koln / Köln – Bingen) at about 13 to 15 kmph. The upstream journey can therefore take between 10 and 11,5 hours. Therefore you have lost a whole day without sighting one castle up close.
From Köln / Koln / Cologne to Koblenz / Coblence = 90 km = between 6 and 7 hours.
From Koblenz / Coblence to Bingen / Rüdesheim / Rudesheim = 60 km = between 4 and 5 hours.
Schedule and cruise ticket prices from Boppard to St. Goar with castle Rheinfels or back.
Schedule and cruise ticket prices from Bingen / Rudesheim to St. Goar with Castle Rheinfels or back.
From Bingen / Rüdesheim / Rudesheim to Mainz = 20 km = about 1,5 hours.
Cologne / Koln / Köln and Bingen on Rhine River are about 150 km apart = between 11,5 and 13 hours.

Question 5: My wife and i would like to have a cruise on the Rhine. We want to spent one week. Have you got any plane to propose? Note that we are just married and the city of our arriving will be Frankfurt airport or Amsterdam airport. Thank you very much, Nikolas Xynos

Question 6: We would like to catch a boat at Bacharach and cruise as far as St. Goar. We would then like to rent bicycles and cycle back to our car in Bacharach. Can you tell me what times we could catch a boat in Bacharach, how long the journey is to St. Goar, and whether there are bicycle shops in St. Goar that will rent bikes to us for one-way travel.

Answer 6: For a boat from Bacharach to St. Goar and how long the journey is, please look at the day cruise line Bingen-Rudesheimer.
There are
no bicycle shops in Bacharach and none in St. Goar. There is only a bicycle shop in Oberwesel between Bacharach and St. Goar and another one in Boppard. Please use the train every hour from St. Goar to Bacharach.

Question 7: We are using a German Rail Pass and wondered if it covers any of the price of the l/2 day trips from St. Goar or Boppard? Our trip is March 22. Thank you. Sharron.

Answer 7: The prices are really cheap. You must pay so much like some cigarette packets. Schedule and cruise ticket prices from Boppard to St. Goar. Please look for the winter schedule on top of this page at Question and Answer no 1. But both companies from Question and Answer no 1 on the top of this page don't accept any Rail Passes.
Only one other boat company on the Rhine River accepts Rail Passes. This company, which accepts Rail Passes, has no cruises in the winter from November 1, to March 31.

Question 8: What boats leave Koblenz to Rudesheim? I need time leaving and arrival and price. Thank you, Virginia Griggs

Answer 11: Drive from Munich with the train to Rudesheim on the right Rhine side or to Bingen on the left Rhine side. Please look at www.online-reservations.de and at this Rhine River map: www.vacation-package.net . And then read all parts from north to south from part 1 (Boppard) to 16 (Rudesheim). But make your cruise from south to north from part 16 (Rudesheim) to 1 (Boppard).
From Boppard railway station you can take a train every hour to Amsterdam via Koblenz, Coblence and Koln, Cologne.
If you are coming from the southeast – Frankfurt airport, Stuttgart airport, Munich airport:

start your River cruise in Rudesheim on the Rhine River ...

Question 12: I have clients arriving in Frankfurt. They are interested in a one day rhine river cruise. Can they get one from Frankfurt, and do you know the aprox length and itn. Thank you. Jack Cunningham

Answer 12: Frankfurt city is a noisy, big town like every big town in the world. There are no day boat trips to Mainz, Rudesheim, Bingen, Koblenz (Coblence) or another town on the the Rhine River valley.
From Frankfurt city are no boat trips for only one night to the Rhine River. Cruise boats on Rhine River with over night stay are only possible for more than 4 nights.
Near Frankfurt airport are no boat landing stages. Frankfurt airport is 20 km more west than Frankfurt city and nearer to the Rhine River than Frankfurt city.
Frankfurt airport is very far away from each town and from the Main river.
From Frankfurt airport you can't take a cruise to anywhere.
From Frankfurt airport take a train every hour to the Rhine River valley. It's much cheaper than to rent a car. In Germany the railway from Frankfurt airport is very good. It is not usual to take a bus from Frankfurt airport.

We would like to stay at the Schonburg castle near Oberwesel and Lorelei Rock overnight and then get back on the Rhine River tour to go North to Boppard. From Boppard we take a train to Amsterdam. Answer 15: If you arriving earlier in the morning drive from Frankfurt airport to Wiesbaden and from Wiesbaden to Rudesheim. Deposit your luggage in the train station in Rudesheim and stay a short time in the city of Rudesheim and see the famous road "Drosselgasse" and if you have time one of the museums. Then take the boat from Rudesheim to Oberwesel (along Bacharach). Please look at the schedule and cruise ticket prices from Rudesheim to Oberwesel . Look also part 2 and part 3 .
If you are arriving later in the morning drive from Frankfurt to Mainz and from Mainz to Bingen. Please look at the schedule and cruise ticket prices from Bingen to Oberwesel . Look also part 2 and part 3 .

But DON'T drive from Oberwesel with the boat to Boppard the next morning. Better you take early in the morning a taxi from Schonburg castle for about 7 or 8 kms north to St. Goar along the Lorelei rock (about 10 EUR). In St. Goar deposit your luggage in the tourist office in St. Goar and drive every 15 minutes with a miniature street railway to Castle Fortress Rheinfels on Rhine River hills and back down the hill to St. Goar.

Question 17: We are planning to drive down from Cologne and start our Rhine River tour in Koblenz. We would like to stay over one night in castle hotel Liebenstein near Kamp-Bornhofen and the Lorelei Rock. Could you give us more information on how long the cruise would take to get to the castle? Can we catch the boat back to Koblenz to get our car? What do you think would be the best way of doing it? Thanks. Julie Adam

Answer 17: Don't drive to Koblenz with the car. I don't think you will find a free parking space over night. Drive to castle fortress Rheinfels on the Rhine hills above St. Goar. There is a big parking place directly near the castle. Please read this web site to visit castle Rheinfels.
Then drive with your car downhills to St. Goar. Free parking spaces are on the north and on the south end of St. Goar near the Rhine River shore. If you come downhills to St. Goar drive about 100 m after the big free hanging cuckoo clock on the highway B 9 left and after about 100 m right. There is a big free parking place.
